King Solomon loved many strange women and they turned his heart away from God. Whatever you love, that God does not want you to love, will turn your heart away from God and you will be the loser at the end of the day, just like King Solomon. So, my friend, who do you love?
Let’s look at God’s warning in 1 Kings 11:2
“Of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.” 1 Kings 11:2 (KJV)
Despite this warning, not only from family, friends and relatives, but from God Himself, he still went ahead to do this:
“And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.” 1 Kings 11:3 (KJV)
If you were God, what will you to such a fellow?
You may be thinking in your heart that, “if I am in the shoes of Solomon, no woman would turn my heart against God. Really? If it doesn’t happen when you’re young and you’re still able to reason well, what about when you’re old? You will do what you know should not be done and you will end up where you did not plan to end up. May you end well in Jesus name.
Solomon really messed up big time:
“For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father. Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods. 1 Kings 11:4-8 (KJV)
What was the result of his action? Read on:
“And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the Lord commanded. Wherefore the Lord said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father’s sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen. And the Lord stirred up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king’s seed in Edom…And God stirred him up another adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, which fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah…And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon’s servant, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he lifted up his hand against the king. 1 Kings 11: 9-14, 23, 26 (KJV)
Before this time, Solomon had never experienced war. He had been at peace all his years but when he sinned against God, God stirred up adversaries against him.
Why should you do what generations after you will curse you forever for, because of your insatiable desire? 1 Kings 11:12 (KJV)
He would have ended up a murderer if God had not preserved the life of Jeroboam. 1 Kings 11:40 (KJV).
Imagine how much God loved this man and imagine how he ended up as a great disappointment to God.
How do you want to end up? Answer that question sincerely. Whatever you love most, will determine your answer.
My admonition to you is to love God with all your heart and with all your soul and obey Him always. Deuteronomy 11:13-20 (KJV)
May you end well in Jesus name.
