Friends, don’t wait until you have problems before you seek God, to know His mind. The end result is not always good. Seek God every second. Let Him guide your every thought, direct you in all ways and lead you in every step. Talk to Him all the time and seek His counsel before you take any step. If you do this, you will not regret in life and you will not become a bad example in the house of God like Jeroboam.
Still talking about Jeroboam, when his son became sick in 1 Kings Chapter 14, he suddenly remembered that there was a prophet who told him that he would be king over Israel. If only he had remembered that when he took the foolish steps he took in 1 Kings 12:25-33, and asked for guidance from God as to what to do to make sure that the people of God would continue to serve God without going to Jerusalem, God would have spoken to Him through His prophet as to the appropriate steps to take and he wouldn’t have sinned against God and all the horrible judgement God pronounced on him and his generation would have been averted.
Lessons from the story
- *If you are in doubt as to the appropriate steps to take about anything, go to God in prayer and ask Him to lead you as to what to do. Isaiah 30:21 says: “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, this is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.”
- *Seek counsel from trusted men and women of God that have been tested and can pray along with you to seek God’s face for direction. “But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the Lord.” (1 Kings 22:5)
- *If you know where God started with you, anytime you are in doubt, go back to your source. Jeremiah 29:13 “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” God will always be found by those who seek Him.
- *When you make God your last resort after incurring His wrath, the judgement that Jeroboam received from God in 1 Kings 14:7-13 may be the answer God will give such individual. Don’t make God your last resort. Let Him be your first thought.
- *Whatever you can think of getting from God when you are in trouble, don’t wait until the trouble starts; go to God before it starts, to seek His counsel.
- *Always seek to please God in all you do. Don’t ever think of disobeying Him. He owns your life. He owns everything about you. He can decide to lift you up. He can decide to demote you. He can decide to cut you down and there is nothing you can do about it. Ask King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2 and 4, he will tell you to refrain from pride and submit to God. “But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” Psalm 75:7
Meditate on these passages:
“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29).
“The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God” (Psalm 14:2).
“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1).
Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to seek you every day of my life, for the rest of my life. Don’t let me wait until trouble starts before I start looking for you and as I seek you, let me find you in Jesus name, amen.
